Ceramic manufacturing process - molds

Mold Design and Fabrication

Design drawings: Draw detailed design drawings based on product requirements to determine dimensions, shapes and structural details.

Material selection: Commonly used materials such as gypsum and silicone are employed to make molds, ensuring demolding performance and durability.

Casting process: Through equipment such as lathes and rotary molds, design drawings are transformed into physical molds. For some complex products, "mold within mold" technology (such as double opening molds and sulfur mother molds) is adopted to enhance efficiency.

2

Mold making Operation in Grouting Molding

Mold closing and grouting: Close and bind the molds one by one, then evenly inject the prepared ceramic slurry into the molds. Control the grouting time and speed to avoid air bubbles.

Mold opening and trimming: After the slurry has solidified, the mold is opened. The wet green body after demolding needs to be trimmed (such as grinding the seams, scraping the mold lines), and holes (water distribution holes, sewage outlets, etc.) should be drilled.

Turning and drying: Wet blanks need to be transferred to the drying area and dried by natural air or hot air to a stable thickness. Some products require secondary trimming to improve surface quality.

3

Quality Inspection and Subsequent Processing

Surface treatment: After demolding, the blank needs to be ground and polished to ensure neat edges and corners and a smooth surface.

Sintering and decoration: After the ceramics are formed, they need to be sintered at high temperatures to enhance their hardness. After completion, they can be glazed, painted or decorated.

4

Precautions

Shrinkage rate control: When designing, the difference in the firing shrinkage rate of raw materials should be taken into account to avoid dimensional deviations of the finished product.

Exhaust treatment: During the grouting process, air bubbles should be removed through exhaust holes to prevent holes or cracks in the finished product.

Through the above process, the precision and quality of ceramic products can be ensured to meet different decorative and practical needs
