Porcelain sculpture art
We know that almost all works of arts and crafts are created directly by the artisans using specific material materials. Once the artistic forms created by the artisans' hands are born, they become works of art, such as paper-cutting art, jade carving, wood carving, etc. However, the situation of ceramic art works is completely different. When a ceramic artist completes the design and creation of a form, it is merely the first step in the process of ceramic art creation. Whether a ceramic artist can eventually turn the artistic form they have designed into a work of art still needs to be tested by a series of technological processes. This is because after the ceramic raw materials are formed into specific shapes, they undergo drying and shrink as the moisture evaporates. During the high-temperature firing stage, the molecular structure becomes relatively soft, and the green body enters a plastic state. Especially when substances such as water completely evaporate and the glass phase is formed, and the green body continues to shrink, if the proportion of the shaped body structure is unreasonable and the weight distribution is uneven, it will lead to product deformation. It can be seen from this that the formation of ceramic sculptures and whether they can achieve the predetermined design goals are determined by the kiln fire. Ceramic sculpture is a unique category in the field of sculpture art. Although it belongs to three-dimensional modeling art compared with other sculpture arts, it has its own distinctive production techniques and artistic styles.
Ceramic sculptures are three-dimensional artworks created by shaping porcelain clay and then firing it at high temperatures. They are commonly referred to as porcelain sculptures. The porcelain sculpture "Harmony between Man and Nature" is the product of the perfect combination of the ceramic artist's "ingenuity" and the "craftsmanship of the kiln fire". Porcelain carvings are different from all kinds of sculptures such as wood carvings, stone carvings, ivory carvings, bone carvings, shell carvings, root carvings, ice carvings and lacquer carvings. They must be fired at a temperature above 1300 degrees Celsius. During the process of transforming from "clay" to "porcelain", the volume of the work shrinks by about 20% as a whole, and fundamental changes occur in both physical and chemical substances, giving birth to a brand-new material called "porcelain". After undergoing the high-temperature vitrification process, its shape, color, volume, texture and other aspects have all undergone a complete transformation, which can be described as a "phoenix rising from the ashes".
Therefore, as a three-dimensional space, Chinese white porcelain sculpture art not only has much higher requirements than other techniques such as painting in terms of materials, creativity, shape, craftsmanship, firing and environmental space, but also the time and effort it takes. The integration of multiple techniques from nothing to something and human wisdom in porcelain sculpture is beyond the reach of other sculpture arts. Its finished products are elegant and permanent, which is also the main reason why it has always won the love of the broad masses of the people. Danner once called sculpture "the perfect art". In this sense, perhaps the "Chinese White" porcelain sculpture is the "most perfect art".
